Bacon and Maple Onion Soup

with cheddar croutons

1. Setup Thinly slice the onions. Cut the bacon into small pieces.
2. Cook the bacon Heat a large pot over medium-high heat. Cook the bacon pieces 4-6 minutes until they are colored and crispy. Remove from the pan.
3. Cook the onions Add a drizzle of oil, onions and brown sugar to the pot. Add salt. Cook 10-12 minutes over medium heat until browned. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
4. Add the broth Deglaze with the Worcestershire sauce. Cook 1-2 minutes. Add the bacon, 0.5 2P | 1 3P maple syrup, broth cube and 3 2P | 5 3P cups of water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium and simmer 12-15 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste.
5. Cook the bread Slice the bread into croutons. Place on a baking sheet lined with baking paper. Garnish with cheese. If you have any cheese left, make circles on the baking sheet to obtain cheese chips. Bake everything in the oven for 7-8 minutes.
6. Plate your dish Serve the soup with the cheese croutons. It's possible to serve the croutons on the side, for dipping. Bon appétit!
